Fortunately it was a false alert (I will run one Windows 7 system with ESU license at least for 2020, so I can blog about patches).įortunately, Microsoft then clarified the situation. Last year I got a shock just before Christmas, and announced the end of MSE in the blog post Windows 7: Soon End-of-Life for Microsoft Security Essentials, which was based on Microsoft's FAQs for Windows 7 EOL. Microsoft Security Essentials still works! Even if a Windows 7 SP1 with an ESU program still receives security updates or is backed up by the 0patch micro patches, it is likely that software vendors will reduce support for their products for this operating system over time. Users who continue to use Windows 7 SP1 after the official end of support on January 14, 2020, will be faced with the question of which antivirus software is still working.
